From 2010 to 2020, the Joint Commission reports that 39 shootings were reported from its accredited organizations. Of those shootings, there were 29 deaths, 21 of which were staff members and 18 of which were patients. Because active threat situations tend to be unpredictable and can evolve quickly, it is critical that your staff have the proper education and training to better prepare them for responding to the incident.
